Dovie Anderson

This is my 4th great grandmother, Ms. Dovie Anderson. Born in Wilkes County in 1836, were she lived her entire life. Dovie was a rebel in her day. She fell in love with preacher who divorced his wife to marry her. They both were churched as their love for each other grew. Grandmother loved God and felt that her husband should continue the ministry, preaching the word of God. Grandmother didn’t allow church bylaws to stop her. So she pulled from her savings and founded the Dovie Chapel in 1901 near the Edgewood community.

This photo of her is in front of the Dovie Chapel. Pictured also is the inside cover of the pulpit bible that was presented to the Dovie Chapel on the day it was founded. I like to think her spirit of newest, love, & inclusion lives within me!
